21st Century Software, Inc. Introduces VFI for Linux
Bringing Intelligence to Backup and Recovery
Boston, Massachusetts — February 15, 2005 — Today at the LinuxWorld Conference
and Expo, 21st Century Software, the leading provider of backup and recovery management
solutions, announced an expansion of their already popular VFI Product Family with the
introduction of VFI for Linux.
"Expanding our VFI Product Family to include support for Linux further strengthens our
leadership role in this rapidly expanding market” said Paul Eckert, the company's Vice President
of Development. “Corporate interest in open systems environments is increasing at a
phenomenal pace and Linux may easily become the corporate standard in open systems
platforms."
21st Century Software's VFI Product family provides the only truly automated, intelligent,
enterprise-level solution for backup and recovery management. VFI is not just another backup
utility; but a high-level system that controls, manages, and enhances the capabilities of system
backup utilities and popular enterprise backup systems. VFI monitors application file activity in
real-time, learning which files are really needed to recover business critical applications. VFI
applies this knowledge by directing the backup utility of your choice to limit its copying to only
the files needed for recovery. This technique streamlines the backup process, significantly
reducing time, resource consumption, and daily operating expense.
VFI manages the recovery process as well and leverages a tiered recovery technique to
quickly get back on line. This feature enables independent recovery of individual applications,
prioritizing recovery of the most critical applications systems and allowing you to restore the less
critical at your convenience. The product also provides centralized audit and tracking of backup
data at the application level for all monitored machines integrating all the information needed for
recovery. Centralization of critical data and automated recovery reduces potential errors and
provides integrity to the overall recovery process. VFI is easy to install, highly flexible, and
easily adapted to existing recovery plans as well as any preferred backup methodology.
Product Availability
Versions of VFI supporting Linux, Unix, OS/390 and z/OS platforms for SUN, HP, IBM
and compatible systems are currently available. The company states that it plans to further
expand platform support in the near future.
